Gloria Theresa Kosciusko, beloved wife of the late Mitchell Kosciusko and beloved mother of seven, died June 10, 2017, in Seneca, SC. Born in Lowell, MA, in 1924, she was the daughter of the late George and Philomene Maynard. She was a 1944 graduate of Massachusetts State College. She earned her BS in home economics and nutrition and received a teaching certificate. She taught school and ran a nutrition program while her husband served in the US Army during WWII. She supported war efforts by living simply and volunteering as a USO hostess by attending dances with soldiers, some of whom she knew would never come home.
She was a college majorette, homemaker, teacher, school board member in Salisbury, CT, bookkeeper, volunteer and longstanding member of the Salisbury Marching Band. She advocated nutrition for wellness. She was known for her hospitality, her love and care for birds, and her great faith.
She shall be greatly missed by her sons Norman (Anne) of FL, Donald (Bernadine) of PA, Neal (Anne) of CT, and daughters Adrienne (William) Gillen, Michele (Duncan) Bremer, Kristin (Eric) Freeman of ID and Kim Kosciusko of CO. She leaves behind 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren who also love her. She is survived by her brother Robert Maynard of GA and her sister and brother-in-law, Geraldine and Donald Lancto of SC; she was predeceased by two brothers and sisters. She also leaves many nieces and nephews whose families span 3 generations.
As her grandson Justin wrote, "Rather than tell people what to do, she showed how to go about life. She was shockingly realistic about things she had little control over and showed through her actions how grace can be maintained through difficulties. Her passion was in things that seemed whimsical but fed her soul and allowed her to move through life with dignity. Her view was always kept by a heavenly light, and she mentored that to those around her."

On November 3, 2017, her funeral mass will be at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lakeville, CT, immediately followed by burial and a reception. Friends at most welcome at either service.
