Dr. Gordon N. Graham

Dr. Gordon Noel Graham, 80, of 105 Riding Park, died Thursday, May 17, 2007, at Palmetto Health Baptist Easley.
Born in Helton Township in Ashe County, N.C., Dr. Graham was a son of the late Grover Cleveland and Olive Burroughs Graham. After serving time in the Navy during World War II, he attended Brevard College, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and Southern College of Optometry, Memphis, TN where he received an O.D. degree in March of 1950. He began practice in Tryon, NC in 1950, then in April of 1957, came to Easley and practiced at 125 East 1st Avenue for thirty years, followed by nine years of corporate practice.
Dr. Graham worked with the Boy Scouts, was a two-time chairman of the Pickens County United Way, was given the "Young Man of the Year" award in 1958 by the local Jaycees Chapter, and was a Past President of the Easley Rotary Club. He served in the First United Methodist Church in various offices including Chairman of Administrative Board, and Superintendent of Sunday School. He was a life member of American Optometric Association, South Carolina Optometric Association, and the American Optometric Foundation. Dr. Graham was a former President of the Brevard College Alumni Association. His interests included Judeo-Christian Bible study for over forty years, history, the arts, travel, and fitness.
Surviving are his wife, Sandra Dickey Graham, of the home; two daughters, Wynn Graham Sims, of Atlanta, GA and Deanna Graham Gumpert of Simpsonville; one son, John Daniel Graham of Hendersonville, NC; a brother, Frank C. Graham of Winston-Salem, NC; two sisters, Beryl Moser of Lewisville, NC, Marion Tidd of Concord, NC; and three grandchildren, Anna Gumpert, Grace Gumpert, and Jack Sims. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Dr. David E. Graham.
Funeral services will be 2:30 PM Sunday in the chapel of First Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. John Adams officiating. Private burial will be Monday in Brevard, N.C.
The body is at Robinson Funeral Home - Downtown and will be placed in the church at 12:30 PM Sunday where the family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 until 2:15 PM in the church narthex.
