Grace Louise Brown, 83, of 34 Hickory Way, died Monday, December 15, 2008.

Born and raised in Yonkers, NY, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Spencer and Ava Floyd Lathrop. She graduated from Briarcliff Junior College and the University of Michigan with a BA in 1947 and Rutgers Graduate School of Social Work with an MSW in 1971. For over 20 years, she was a marriage and family therapist with Family and Children's Services of Montclair and Glen Ridge, NJ.

Mrs. Brown was always actively involved with church work, was a member of the Junior League of Elizabeth, NJ, and Senior Auxiliary of Westfield, NJ. She was an active volunteer for several charitable organizations.

Surviving are a son, Steven L. Brown and his wife Susan of Edina, MN; two daughters, Christine W. Brown of Roselle Park, NJ, Carolyn B. Costlow and her husband Richard of Lansdale, PA; and seven grandchildren, Jennifer Brown Rafaelli, Allison Brown, Kevin Brown, Katherine Brown, David Costlow, Erin Costlow, and Kerry Costlow. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Russell W. Brown, who died in 2002; and two sisters, Ava W. Stadtmueller and her husband Frederick, and Eleanor F. Waldron and her husband Marshall.

A memorial service will be 1:30 PM Sunday at Fort Hill Presbyterian Church with Reverend Mary C. Gause officiating. A reception for the family and friends will be held immediately following the service in Tartan Hall.

Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Presbyterian Church of Westfield, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fort Hill Presbyterian Church's Building Fund; 399 College Avenue; Clemson, SC 29631 or to Hospice of the Foothills; 390 Keowee School Road; Seneca, SC 29672.
