Grace Ramona Hallas

Grace Ramona Winne Hallas, 92, wife of Robert Fred Hallas, of Danville, VT, was received into God’s arms on Wednesday, June 29, 2022. Born in Elmhurst, IL, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Hazel Dunbar Winne. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Hallas; and a sister, Hazel Clark.

Grace Hallas is survived by Robert, her loving husband of 67 years, 6 children:  David (Anita) of Taylors, SC, Connie Kuball (Kerry) of Prescott, AZ, Stephen of Orange, VT, Dan (Shari) of Roslindale, MA, Harold of Nashville, TN, and James (Kristen) of Tamarac, FL; 19 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson, and her siblings Robert Winne and Betty Obetz.

Grace Hallas was a registered nurse from West Suburban College. She was also an active member of Union Baptist Church in St. Johnsbury, VT for over 50 years before moving to Greenville, SC in 2015. She was the president of the Christian Woman's club, led Apples of Gold, and was known for her hospitality and love for mentoring and entertaining friends and strangers alike. 

She
broke her hip pulling rhubarb from her garden
loved to garden with over 100 kinds of flowers
entertained hitchhikers
snatched a pig’s tooth from a man's mouth
ate peanut butter pickle sandwiches
made butterfly stitches for head wounds
made picnic lunches for eight
had a vegetable garden
made 10 pies at a time and gave most away
drove too fast
wore a wig in the '70s
made rouge with lipstick and vaseline
couldn't carry a tune in a bucket
put sugar on everything
led many people to Christ
preferred burnt toast to sour milk
always took the smaller piece
snored like a banshee
was the richest lady in town.

A Celebration of Life will be held July 23rd at 1pm with a reception following at Union Baptist Church in St. Johnsbury, VT. Please wear joyful attire. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to UBC for their Fellowship Fund. Just add a note “In memory of Grace". This will be used to bring flowers and help for those in need.
