Grace Calloway Raxter, 83, died Monday, July 20, 2009, at the home of her daughter, Patsy Murphy in Dacusville. She was the devoted wife of the late Waymon Raxter to whom she was married for fifty years. Mrs. Raxter was formerly of 3180 Earls Bridge Road in the Dacusville Community for more than sixty years. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and homemaker, and was a member of Terry Creek Pentecostal Holliness Church.
Born August 5, 1925 in Greenville County, she was the daughter of the late Worthy L. and Violet Thurston Calloway.
Surviving are a daughter, Patsy Murphy and husband, Gary, of Dacusville; a granddaughter, Marie Galloway Anders and husband, Yancey, of Dacusville; two great-grandsons, Grayson Anders and Parker Anders, both of Dacusville; a sister, Virginia Hawkins of Travelers Rest; three brothers, Praylo W. Calloway of Travelers Rest, Lewis R. Calloway of Pisqah Forest, NC, and Carl D. Calloway of Danielsville, GA. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Raxter was predeceased by two sisters, Louise Calloway and Gladys Hawkins, and a brother, James H. Calloway.
Mrs. Raxter's devotion to her family was exemplary, and her legacy will be felt for generations to come.
A special thanks to Southern Care Hospice, especially Diane and all of the care givers. And to Marie for staying with her grandmother every day and taking excellent care of her in her last years. And to her friend, Mrs. Dixie Cassell of Brevard, NC, for all the prayers, cards and phone calls. And to all of Grace's family for all of their love and support over the years. Our family has been truly blessed with a wonderful family and true friends, and our church family Cross Roads Baptist Church. Our family would like to say thank you and we love you all.
Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown with Rev. Don Waters and Rev. Mark Ford officiating. Burial will follow in Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Barry Durham, Quincey McConnell, Harold McConnell, Tom Galloway, David Turner and Arthur Hayes.
Visitation will be from 2:00 until 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, prior to the service.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Cross Roads Baptist Church Building Fund, 160 Cross Roads Church Road, Easley, SC 29640 or to Southern Care Hospice, 6000 Pelham Road, Greenville, SC 29615.
The family is at the home of Patsy and Gary Murphy, 320 Nadina Heights Blvd., Easley, SC 29640.
