James Gregory “Gregg” Cooley, 64, of Central, husband to Kim M. Cooley, entered the presence of the Lord the night of November 25, 2024.
Born at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, Goldsboro, NC, he was the son of the late Fred “Pete” Cooley and Jean Chapman Cooley. Gregg graduated from Oscoda High School in Oscoda, MI, where he was a standout golfer and was inducted to the Oscoda High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Following high school, he attended Clemson University, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in finance. While at Clemson, he walked on and made the golf team. After graduating from Clemson, Gregg began his career as a Certified Public Accountant. He was a partner with Stancil, Cooley, Estep, & Stamey, LLP. Gregg was a dedicated member of the Clemson community for many years, actively participating in the Clemson Area Chamber of Commerce and the Clemson Sertoma Club, where he served as Chairman of Camp Sertoma for 18 years. He enjoyed going on cruises and traveling with his wife and friends, family beach trips, playing golf, and his Garden Club. Gregg was an avid Clemson Tigers fan and cherished his time attending games and tailgating with family and friends. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Clemson.
Gregg is survived by his wife of 43 years, Kim M. Cooley; children, Katie Cooley Dobson (Matt) of Central, Austin Gregory Cooley (Addie) of Simpsonville, and Preston Charles Cooley (Kelli) of Seneca; grandchildren, Hayleigh, Lily, Rowan, Liam, Savannah, Evelyn, and coming soon, Parker James; brother, Don Cooley (Kimberly) of Simpsonville.
He is predeceased by his parents and a brother, Wayne Cooley.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Clemson. The family will receive friends following the service in the Family Life Center. Feel free to wear your Clemson attire to celebrate Gregg’s life. There will be free parking in the Clemson Parking Deck and the surrounding churches.
