Gwen B. Martin

Gwendolyn Bagwell Martin, aged 86, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on October 3, 2024.

Born on September 5, 1938, Gwendolyn was a lifelong beacon of love and generosity, known for her deep Christian faith and commitment to her family. To know Gwen was to witness a true Christian woman walk the path The Lord asked of her. A proud graduate of Easley High School, Gwen dedicated her professional life to Martin Grading, where she ran the operation in the shadows from 1965 until her retirement in 2011. Beyond her career, she was a talented pianist, often filling her home and many sanctuaries throughout the Upstate with worship music and warmth. Gwendolyn was a devoted member of First Baptist Church Clemson, where she practiced her faith and served her community with kindness and grace. She cherished her time behind the piano, playing for The Lord.

She leaves behind a loving family, including her daughter, Phyllis Martin Lawless and her husband, Brian Lawless; son, Jimmie Leland Martin, Jr., and his wife, Jessica Martin; sister, Kathy Bagwell Gentry, and husband, Frank Gentry; along with seven cherished grandsons, Jimmie Leland Martin, III, Tanner Stone (wife Katelyn Stone), Willis Martin, Dean Framke, Aden Martin, Dillon Lawless (wife Sammie Jo Lawless), and Justin Lawless.

Gwendolyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jimmie Leland Martin, Sr.; daughter, Deborah Lee Martin; father, R. Doyce Bagwell; mother, J. Eunice Galloway Bagwell; sister, Patricia Ann Bagwell Stokes.

A graveside service will be held at Memory Gardens in Central, South Carolina on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at 11:00am.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to First Baptist Church Clemson Music Program.

Gwendolyn's legacy will live on through her family, her faith, and the sweet melodies she played.
