Harold S. Holcombe

Harold Sullivan Holcombe, 84, husband of Lou Ellen Hood Holcombe, succumbed August 18, 2007 to Acute Leukemia while visiting family in Orlando, Florida.
Born December 1, 1922 in Pickens County, Harold was a son of the late John Esley and Della Alexander Holcombe. He made his home in Upstate SC living in Anderson and Greenville Counties. A devoted Christian husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend andleader, Harold loved his Lord above all else and showed it in his every action and word.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Jim Holcombe of Titusville, FL; one daughter, Shirley Holcombe of Greenville; three granddaughters, Danielle Duce & husband Steve of Jacksonville, FL, Kendra Gustafson and husband John of Riverview, FL,Courtney Adams and husband James of Piedmont; one great-grandson, Joshua Duce of Jacksonville, FL; two sisters, Bess Moon of Liberty, Anita Green of Easley; and one brother, John E. Holcombe, Jr. of Easley. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters.
A Greatest Generation soldier, he served his country proudly in WWII as a Technical Sergeant with the Third Army Corps of Engineers in the Pacific Theater as a part of both the Philippine Campaign & the Japan Occupation Forces (1944 - 1946). He retiredfrom Crown-Zellerbach Paper Company in 1982 where he was responsible for production planning and purchasing operations at the Gaylord Container Division.
A member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church, throughout his life he contributed countless hours to church activities, serving as a Sunday School Teacher (58 yrs), Training Union Director (20 yrs), R.A. Leader (20 yrs) and Boy Scout Troop Founder/Leader.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Thursday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home - Powdersville Road with Reverend Dr. Keith Shorter and Reverend Jack Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in Robinson Memorial Gardens, 1425 Powdersville Road, Easley.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM Thursday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
A gathering of friends and family will be held at Mt. Airy Baptist Church Fellowship Hall (SC Hwy 81) following the services.
