Harold C. Smith, III

Harold Calhoun "Hal" Smith, III, 63, formerly of Greenville, died Sunday, November 18, 2007, at his home.
Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of Zermah Sitton Pope Holland and the late Harold Calhoun Smith, Jr. He attended Peekskill Military Academy, The Webb School and the University of South Carolina. Graduating from Officer's Candidate School, he served as a First Lieutenant in Vietnam with the US Army, where he was awarded the Purple Heart.
Mr. Smith worked for Britt-Clary Company Food Brokers for seventeen years. After selling the business, he became a realtor for Remax-Foothills. He was a member of the Poinsett Club, The Cotillion Club, and was a communicant of Saint Michaels Episcopal Church in Easley.
He was a devoted husband and loving father. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Betsy" Clary Smith; two daughters, Yancey Smith Bergquist and husband, Scott, and Sitton Smith Ostebee and her husband, Heath; two grandchildren, Scott Eric Bergquist, Jr., and and Clary Elizabeth Bergquist; three sisters, Zermah Pope Smith Dawes, Jean Reed Smith Sutherland and Mary Smith Morton.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday at Sitton Hill Farm.
The family will receive friends immediately following the ceremony.

Directions to Sitton Hill Farm: From I-85 South, take exit 40 (Highway 153 to Easley) Turn right on 153 and follow it for 3.5 miles to the fourth traffic light.
At the light (Old Pendleton Road) take a left and go straight for approximately 1.9 miles. After the flashing yellow light/sign, take a right onto Sitton Hill Road.
Sitton Hill Farm is .3 miles on your left. Go past the farm house and enter left through the lower gate. Parking will be in the pasture, as directed.
