Harold G. LayneClemson, SCHarold Gene Layne, 82, of 204 Downs Blvd, husband of Margaret Elizabeth Layne left this Earthly life on Friday, January 22, 2016.Born in Pittsburg, OK, he was the son of the late Giles H. and Ruby Anderson Layne. Harry graduated from Ceres High School, Ceres, CA, in 1950. After 4 years of service in the US Navy, he attended Modesto Jr. College, Modest, CA, graduating in 1956. He then had further education at Sacramento State University, Sacramento, CA; Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, IL; and The Harvard University Business School extension while working with The Western Union Telegraph Company from 1955-1984.Harry served on the USS Duncan, DDR-874 during the Korean War. He was a signalman on this ship. Later he was appointed "skipper" of LCU-983 based in Yokosuka, Japan.He was an avid golfer most of his adult life. He was a member and elder of Walhalla Presbyterian Church, Walhalla, SC, and member, elder and Clerk of Session of Pendleton Presbyterian Church, Pendleton, SC; also the first full Moderator of Foothills Presbytery. He was a graduate of The Presbyterian Lay School of Theology of SC. Mr. and Mrs. Layne attend First Baptist Church, Pendleton, SC.Surviving in addition to his beloved wife of 56 years are a son, David A. Layne of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Sharon K. Layne Hawkey and husband Adam of Los Angeles, CA; one grandchild, Isabelle A. Hawkey; and a brother, Danny R. Layne of Twain Harte, CA.Funeral services will be 11 AM, Friday, January 29, 2016 in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home with burial to follow in Oconee Memorial Park, Seneca, SC.The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 AM on Friday prior to the service at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Christian Church of your choice, with these words...The Lord is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation; This is my God, and I will praise Him; my father's God, and I will extol Him."Condolences may be expressed online at www.robinsonfuneralhomes.com or at the funeral home.
