Harold B. Prince

Harold Bailey Prince, Sr., librarian, minister, tennis player, traveler, opera lover, family man, and friend, died at the Presbyterian Community in Clinton, South Carolina, on December 30, 2010.
Born January 10, 1917, in Easley, South Carolina, he was one of ten children of James Chesley and Elsie Entrekin Prince. He earned degrees from the University of South Carolina, Emory University, and Columbia Theological Seminary.
After service in the Army Air Corps in World War II, he was the librarian at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia, for more than thirty years, as well as serving as a Presbyterian supply pastor throughout Georgia. In 1969-70, he was president of the American Theological Library Association.
From his youth until his mid-80's, he was an intense competitor on the tennis court, making many friends and collecting a shelfful of trophies.
Surviving are three sons, Harold Bailey Prince, Jr. of Palo Alto, California, Dr. James William Prince of Seattle, Washington, and George Thomas Prince of Chicago, Illinois; a daughter, Elizabeth Houck Prince of Gainesville, Florida; and grandchildren, William, Ben, and Sabine. Rev. Prince was predeceased by his wife, Sarah Evelyn Houck Prince, of Russellville, Alabama; four brothers, James Roy Prince, Kenneth Entrekin Prince, Louis Reid Prince, and George Alexander Prince; and five sisters, Annie Mae Prince Tuten, Claire Prince Trumpore, Vivian Christine Prince, Lillian Prince, and Frances Prince Gaddy.
Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Sunday, January 2, 2011, at the Presbyterian Community in Clinton, S.C.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM Sunday at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown in Easley, S.C. Friends may pay their respects to Rev. Prince any other time during the day Sunday.
Graveside funeral services will be 2:00 PM Monday, January 3, 2011, at Dawn Memorial Park, 4685 Glenwood Road, Decatur, Georgia.
