Harold Martin Smith, 87, of Greenville, died Wednesday, November 19, 2008 in Greenville.

Born in Buffalo, New York, he was a son of the late Harold J. and Julie Zimmerman Smith. He was married to the late Clara Sprott Smith.

Mr. Smith attended Niagra University for 3 years and entered the U.S. Air Force in 1943. He was a navigator in the 15th Air Force stationed in Italy. He became a prisoner of the Germans for 14 months. After the War, he worked in radio several years in California and Texas. He then moved to Easley to work for WELP. Later he became a photographer for Clemson University. He enjoyed that work for 23 years and retired in 1985. During that time, he owned Hal Smith Photography.

Survivors include: a son, Harold "Marty" Smith, Jr. and his wife Dian of Simpsonville; a granddaughter, Hallie Ruth Smith of Simpsonville; one brother, Richard Smith and his wife Ellie of Buffalo, NY.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Entombment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum.

The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.

The family extends many thanks to Vistacare Nurses and Aids. Also, to Chaplain Deon, that ministered to him weekely; special thanks to the loving staff of nurses and CNA's that have taken such great care of him and treated him with respect over the past 7 years at National Health Care.
