Harold Edward "Wee Bear" Southerland, 90, of 208 Biltmore Road, passed away Friday, May 2, 2014 at Baptist Easley Hospital.
Born in Pickens County, a son of the late Lawrence Monroe and Kitty Guffee Sutherland, Mr. Southerland retired as staff manager with Independent Life Insurance Company and was a member of Park Street Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II having served with the US Marines.
Surviving are his wife of sixty-six years, Ruth Palmer Southerland of the home; a son, Brett Southerland and wife, Andrea, of Easley; a brother, Rev. Lawrence "Pee Wee" Southerland of Anderson; and a grandson, Devin Southerland. In addition to his parents, Mr. Southerland was predeceased by a son, Harold Edward "Hal" Southerland, Jr., four brothers, Jack, Truman, Billy and Lowell Southerland, four sisters, Hazel Robinson, Lillie Oates, Mildred McCollum and Willine Garrison, and by a half-brother, Haywood Sutherland.
Graveside services will be 11:30 AM Monday at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 10:00 until11:00 AM Monday at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Park Street Baptist Church, 114 Robinson Avenue, Easley, SC 29640.
The family is at the residence.
