Harriet F. Benning

Harriet Floyd Benning, formerly of 115 Evergreen Drive, died Monday, October 6, 2008 at Lenbrook Square in Atlanta, GA. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Thomas Cobb Benning.
Born in Atlanta, GA, Harriet was a daughter of the late Cecil H. and Nell DuPree Floyd. Mrs. Benning received a B.S. in Education from Georgia State College for Women in 1945. She taught kindergarten in Morristown, TN. She was a longtime member of Clemson First Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, and was most recently a member of Wieuca Road Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA. She was formerly the President of Senior Reading Circle, a Past President of Clemson Garden Club, was involved in various civic activities and volunteered with Meals on Wheels and the American Red Cross.
Mrs. Benning is survived by two sons, Dr. Thomas Richard Benning and wife Donna of Nashville, TN, Michael Floyd Benning and wife Judy of Tampa, FL; two daughters, Gail Ann Benning Carpenter and husband James of Winston-Salem, NC, Leslie C. Benning and husband Dr. Rafael Bejarano of New York, NY; a sister, Nell Floyd Hall of Atlanta, GA; 8 grandchildren, Thomas Richard Benning, Jr. and wife Lee, Elizabeth Benning Glynn and husband Prescott, Robert Edward Benning, Clay A. Benning and wife English, Meredith D. Benning, Christian Benning Carpenter and wife Fran, Auburn Anne Carpenter, Alexandra Bejarano, and eight great-grandchildren, Hannah, Sarah, Gareth, Larissa, Alathea, Gwendolyn, William, and Gillian.
A memorial service will be 3 PM Saturday at Clemson First Baptist Church. A private burial will be in Old Stone Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
