Harry A. Sutton, Jr.

 

Harry A. Sutton, Jr., 92, of Clemson, husband of the late Lorraine G. Sutton, passed away September 14, 2022.

Born in Orange, N.J., he was the son of the late Harry and Kathryn Dean Sutton. Mr. Sutton graduated from Summit High School in New Jersey and received his bachelor’s degree in Economics from Lafayette College in Easton, PA. He honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War then went on to a career with Sears retiring as a store manager. Mr. Sutton volunteered from twenty years as a tax aide and volunteered at Clemson Downs.  He enjoyed playing bridge and all sports, especially golf, football and baseball.

Mr. Sutton is survived by his daughters, Carolyn Harper-Capestro of Colorado Springs, CO and Debra S. Schmidt of Clemson; grandchildren, Kelly Pumroy and husband Kyle, Brian P. Schmidt, Kevin C. Schmidt and wife Marie, and Kathryn A. Moore and husband Jeremy; great-grandchildren, Hampton, Thomas, Jacob, and Sutton.

Harry is predeceased by his wife of fifty-nine years, Lorraine G. Sutton, son, Stephen C. Sutton and wife Jane, and sons-in-law, Phillip D. Schmidt, Peter Capestro, and William Harper.

Please wear your favorite Clemson attire to celebrate Harry’s life at the Corley Center at Clemson Downs from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 25, 2022.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Central Recreation Department for athletic scholarships, 1067 W. Main Street, Central, SC 29630.

Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
