Mrs. Hazel Gentry Welborn, 93, widow of James Harvey Welborn died Friday, June 29, 2018.
Hazel was born in Macon, Georgia, a daughter of Samuel Pierce and Rachel Idella Gentry. She graduated from Dacusville High School, class of 1942. She married Harvey Welborn and together raised two boys, Gregg and Gary. It was her full time job. Whenever she had a chance, Hazel enjoyed gardening, quilting and cooking. She was a servant who cared more about others than herself. Her Methodist faith was important to her.
Hazel is survived by two sons, James Gregory Welborn and wife Tracey of Hartsville, and William Gary Welborn and wife Kay of LaGrange, GA; two grandsons, Matthew Gregory Welborn and wife Caroline, and Taylor Gentry Welborn; two great grandchildren, Raines and Riggs Welborn; and two sisters, Pat Mattie Ruth Hart and Ann Louise Osborne. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband in April 2006, two brothers, Allen Lawrence and James Pierce Gentry; and two sisters, Mae Van Ballard and Ina Marie O'dell.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Greenville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Piedmont.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 1107 S Main St, Greenville, SC 29601.
