Helen Roper Carter, 79, of Easley, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 28, 2026, and entered into the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late John Anderson Roper and the late Frances Alberta Garrett Roper. Helen received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Mars Hill University and dedicated her career to serving others as an educator. She was a member of Six Mile Baptist Church and a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she lived each day seeking to share the love of Jesus Christ with those around her through her words, kindness, and example.
Helen was known for her generous spirit and servant's heart. She was always willing to help others, offering encouragement, compassion, and support to family, friends, and anyone in need. She loved thrift shopping, playing bridge, and spending time in the mountains, but her greatest joy was being with her family. Whether gathered around the table, celebrating special occasions, or simply enjoying everyday moments together, Helen treasured every opportunity to spend time with those she loved. Her legacy of faith, generosity, and love will continue to inspire all who knew her.
She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but they rejoice in the assurance that she is now at home with our Savior.
Surviving are her children, Angie Carter Sheriff (Ben) of Easley, John David Carter (Caroline) of Anderson, and Christopher Franklin Carter (Meg) of Greenville; her brother, Julien Daniel Roper (Donna) of Campobello; her sisters, Elaine Roper Marchbanks of Six Mile and Janet Roper Humphries (Randy) of Pickens; her grandchildren, Braxton Sheriff (Laura), Colton Sheriff (Mackenzie), Jackson Carter, Cate Carter, Eliza Carter, Will Carter, Mary Isaac Carter, and Sarah Carter; one great-grandchild, Parker Sheriff; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Jane Roper, and her brother-in-law, Dr. Marshall V. Marchbanks (Elaine).
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, June 1, 2026, at Six Mile Baptist Church, with private burial to follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 1:45 PM Monday in the Roper Fellowship Hall, prior to the service.
