Helen Ellenburg Harkins, 96, widow of John Walter Harkins and formerly of Easley, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 3, 2007 at Riverside Living Center.

Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late William Franklin and Una Myrtle Wilson Ellenburg.

Helen lived a simple life and loved her family, church and friends. She enjoyed baking cakes and sharing them with others, especially those in the nursing home, hospital and the shut-ins. She was a member of Smith Grove Baptist Church and retired from International Paper Company.

Helen was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by two sons, James E. Harkins and wife Bonnie and Franklin J. Harkins, all of Easley; four daughters, Gladys L. Williams and husband, R. Wyatt, Annie R. "Ann" Whitlock, Bertie M. Gibson and husband, Larry and Laura E. McDonald and husband, William all of Easley; five grandchildren, which she adored, Ronald E. Harkins, Sharon A. Gibson-Martin and husband, Robert L., Sherry L. DiPietro and husband, Mario L, Lisa P. Adcox and husband, Mike, and Eric B. Whitlock and wife, Carrie; and six great-grandchildren, Nicholas "Nick" and Lucas "Luke" DiPietro, Helen Martin, Graham Adcox, Zack and Alex Whitlock. She has one surviving brother, William Ellenburg of Lugoff, SC. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a son-in-law, Johnny L. Whitlock; a daughter-in-law, Cathleen R. Harkins; two sisters, Elsie E. Smith and Margie E. Hamlin; and four brothers, Raymond, Carl, Lloyd and John C. Ellenburg.

Funeral services will be 11 AM, Tuesday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown with Revs. Randy Smith and Carl Jordan officiating. Burial will follow in Smith Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday, from 5:00 to 6:30 PM at the funeral home.

The family is at the home of her daughter, Bertie H. Gibson

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Smith Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 1220 Smith Grove Road, Liberty, SC 29657.
