Mrs. Helen Loray Phelps Hinkel, 87, of Easley, widow of the late John C. Hinkel, Sr., went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ Monday, June 8, 2015 at Manna Health and Rehab of Pickens.
Helen was born in McHenry, Kentucky on June 11, 1927 to the late Ellis and Irene Wilson Phelps. She was a homemaker and enjoyed word puzzle books. Helen was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Easley. She was an excellent caregiver to her family, was an avid prayer warrior, and loved to send cards to her church members.
Mrs. Hinkel is survived by a son; Glenn Hinkel (Rebecca), of Easley; a daughter; Irene Handley (Walter), of Portage, Indiana; two brothers; James Phelps and Mervil Phelps (Rachel), both of Owensboro, Kentucky; and two sisters; Gladys Tatum of Missouri; and Louise Bishop of McHenry, Kentucky. She is also survived by five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons; Robert Hinkel and John C. Hinkel, Jr.; a granddaughter; Jessica Hinkel; and an infant great-grandchild; Stylas Lee Williamson.
A private family inurnment will be held at a later date in Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in honor of Mrs. Helen Hinkel to the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Building Fund, 101 Pisgah Road, Easley, SC 29642.
