Helen Catherine James Maw, 98, passed away peacefully Sunday September 27, 2020. She was born May 11, 1922 in Greenville, a daughter of Raymond E. and Ellen Estelle Batson James. Helen was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She was the oldest member.
Helen graduated from Liberty High School, class of 1939. She was the last surviving member of her class. She married Elmer Maw in 1946 and together had four children. They raised chickens for many years, as well as owned and operated Maws Store. Helen enjoyed gardening and doing word searches.
Helen is survived by three sons, Roger of Central, Jerry and his wife, Wanda of Pendleton, and Jimmy and his wife Kimberley of Central; a daughter, Sandra Chapman and her husband Steve of Central; 17 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Dorothy Berlin of Greer and Ruth McGuire and her husband Bob of Easley. In addition to her husband of 56 years, Helen was preceded in death by 8 siblings.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, September 30 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 3041 Six Mile Highway in Central.
The family will receive friends at 1 PM prior to the service.
Interment will be at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
