Henry Gerard Lefort, 83, husband of Mary-Ellen Lefort, died Wednesday, May 4, 2011. He was born in Mineola, NY, son of the late Henry G. and Aasta Anda Lefort.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a 1952 graduate of Clemson University. He received his PhD from the University of Illinois. Prior to his career at Clemson University, he worked for the National Bureau of Standards in Washington, D.C. and the Lawrence Radiation Laboratory in Livermore, CA. He was a Professor of Ceramic Engineering at Clemson University for 31 years until his retirement in 1993.
In addition to his wife of 56 years, Mary-Ellen Lefort of the home, he is survived by sons: Gerry Lefort and wife Patty of Central and Robbie Lefort and wife Patsy of Central; daughter, Jenny Lefort Thurman and husband Mark of Cookeville, TN and grandchildren: Nikki Lefort, Ali Lefort, Cody Lefort, Angela Holden, Aasta Thurman and Ruby Thurman.
Memorial services will be held at Clemson United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 2 PM. The family will receive friends at a reception following the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Clemson United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 590, Clemson, SC 29633 or by giving blood to the local Blood Connection.
