Herbert Edward "Mac" Macmurphy III, age 73, formerly of Sullivan's Island, SC passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at his home in Seneca.
Born in Newton, North Carolina, Mr. Macmurphy was a son of the late Herbert Edward Macmurphy, Jr. and the late Mayme Warlick Macmurphy. He graduated from AC Flora High School and Wofford College, was an Eagle Scout and a naturalist. He loved nature, birds, and any outdoor activity. He served in Vietnam in the US Navy as a Hospital Corpsman attached to a Marine Corps Battalion. He was a Purple Heart recipient.
Surviving are his brother, John D. Macmurphy (Joanna) of Mt. Pleasant; a sister, Gill Macmurphy Koenig (Jeff) of Columbia; nieces, Maggie Koenig of Charleston, Anna Gray Baker of New Orleans, LA, and Christina Macmurphy of Kuaui, HI; and nephews, Jeff Koenig, Jr. of Columbia, Bill Koenig of Oxford, MS, Jay Macmurphy of Mt. Pleasant and Will Macmurphy of Charleston.
Private memorial services will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Avian Conservation Center, (Birds of Prey), 4719 Highway 17 North, Awendaw, SC 29429 or the Audubon Society, or charity of one's choice.
