Hillel Samisch

June 11, 1930 — July 15, 2020

On Wednesday, July 15, 2020, Hillel Samisch, loving husband of 64 years, father of two children, and 'Pop Pop' to seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, passed away at age 90 in Seneca, SC.

Hillel was born on 11 June, 1930 in Leavenworth, KS to Hillel and Miriam Samisch. He was a proud Kansas Jayhawk, which was somewhat challenging in the last four years of his life surrounded by the purple and orange of the Clemson Tiger family. Upon the passing of his beloved wife, Claire Hagedorn Samisch in 2016, he called the Clemson Downs Retirement Community home.

Hillel – the consummate gentlemen and proud Eagle Scout – met Claire on a blind date in Memphis, TN some seventy years ago. Their love blossomed quickly, and turned into the adventure of a lifetime, spanning multiple continents, including sending Hillel off to the wars in Korea as an Infantryman, and then to Vietnam as an Intelligence Officer. Finally settling down in Northern Virginia after a 23 year military career, and earning the Legion of Merit for his service to the Nation, Hillel and Claire embarked on the next phase of their lives, marked by simple, genuine, unwavering passion to take care of their family, enjoy their friends, and raise their beloved Dachshunds. They were the inspiration to so many…their kindness and generosity felt by all.

Hillel is survived by his two children, Cheryl Samisch Trammell (Harrison) of Seneca, SC and Mark Samisch (Carolyn) of Tampa, FL; seven grandchildren, Harrison Trammell (LaBruce) of Austin, TX, Jonathan Trammell (August) of Atlanta, GA, Caroline Trammell Brooks (Harrison) of Atlanta, GA, Andrew Trammell (Hilary) of Charlotte, NC, Sean and Samantha Samisch of Tampa, FL, and Clark Samisch of Charleston, SC; and four great grandchildren, Boggan and McLean Trammell of Austin, TX, Jude Trammell of Atlanta, GA and Philip Brooks of Atlanta, GA.

In addition to his parents and wife, Hillel was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Samisch Feibelman. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Cottingham Hospice House, 390 Keowee School Rd., Seneca, SC 29672.
