Dyke attended Clemson University for two years before attaining his Bachelors of Science in Marine Science and Engineering at Coastal Carolina University. He graduated with the Class of 1980, and remained an enthusiastic fan of the Clemson Tigers for his entire life. Dyke served as the executive director of Powdersville Water District for over two decades. His leadership was instrumental in ensuring reliable and clean water for the community. His commitment to public service and his ability to manage complex challenges earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and those he served. He spent many years on leadership boards and committees, including service as Chair of the Anderson Regional Joint Water System; the Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce Water Resources Committee; the SC AWWA Water Utility Council; the SCRWA Board of Directors; the WEASC District VIII; and the Lake Hartwell Partners for Clean Water.
Beyond his professional life, Dyke was a force to be reckoned with, known for his unwavering support for his family and friends. He could be found in his spare time on the golf course with his buddies. Dyke married his beloved wife, Rhonda, and together they traveled the world and built a life rich in love and shared experiences. They loved spending time on the water, whether it was the beaches of the Lowcountry or their backyard, Lake Hartwell. Dyke was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, finding his greatest joy in the company of his family.
He is survived by his wife, Rhonda Spencer; his three sons, Kevan (Jenna), Ryan (Alexa), and Cam (Hanna); and his five grandchildren, Tessa, Evan, Silas, Patrick, and Kennedy, who were the light of his life. Dyke is also survived by his brother, Daniel “Dan” Spencer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Dorothy Spencer.
A celebration of Dyke’s life will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Fort Hill Presbyterian Church of Clemson. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Water Missions International, the Wounded Warrior Project, or the Special Olympics.
Dyke Spencer will be remembered by many for his commitment to his work and passion, his sincere faith, and his dedication to his family. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him, and he will be deeply missed by all.
