Howard L. Watson
Clemson, SC
Howard L. Watson, 92, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 4, 2020. He was born in Louisville, Kentucky July 16, 1927 the only child of Clarence and Annie Lynch Watson. He was a member of Clemson United Methodist Church.
Howard grew up and attended schools in Louisville. He enlisted in the US Navy immediately after graduating from high school, and participated in Operation Crossroads, testing the effect of nuclear weapons on naval warships. Upon completion of his time in the Navy he attended the University of Louisville under the G.I. bill, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering. Howard worked for several different companies during the span of his career, but spent most of his time working for Air Products and Chemicals. He was a Rotarian throughout his professional career and a man of integrity throughout his entire life.
Howard loved his family and was so proud of each and every one of them. They were the most important thing to him, and he loved the times they shared together. He also loved when family members would get together outside of planned reunions or events - he cherished the thought of the family bond continuing on past his years. He enjoyed boating, playing golf, and computers, and kept up with technology better than most - he began working with computers before PC's, created a family web page before Facebook came along, and enjoyed using his computer, i-pad, and i-phone for many things, but especially to connect with family and friends. He looked forward to regular FaceTime visits with those that lived far away. He had a great time building sophisticated Lego models, working crossword puzzles, playing bridge, dominoes and sudoku. He was a good friend to many and was never late for lunch.
Howard is survived by two sons - Marc Watson (Sherre) of Orlando, Florida, and Greg Watson (Jennifer) of Trumansburg, New York; three daughters - Connie Byrd (Bill) of Paducah, Kentucky, Sandy Sprott (Jim) of Ravenna, Ohio, and Barb Angle (Charlie) of Six Mile, South Carolina; 11 grandchildren - Julie Byrd Tapp, Will Byrd, Brian Watson, Lauren Watson Conner, Lindsey Watson DeFabrique, Liz Watson Lay, Sam Watson, Emilie Angle, Caroline Angle, Jamie Angle; and 13 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Howard was predeceased by his loving wife of 58 years, Lorraine; and grandson Brandon Sprott.
