Rev. Hubert E. Bishop, Sr.

Rev. Bishop went home to be with his Lord on Monday, July 27. He was born March 30, 1924, the son of the late Robert Jefferson bishop and Hattie Coggins Bishop.
Rev. Bishop is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Sara Cox Bishop; one daughter, Carol Bishop Scarborough (Mark) of Rockhill, SC; two sons, Hubert E. Bishop, Jr. of Easley, SC and John Mark Bishop (Ann) of Liberty, SC; one sister, Helen B. Canada (Bill) of Greenville, SC; grandchildren, James "Jim" Bishop (Krista), Chris S. Bishop (Jennifer), J. Clay Elrod (Melanie), Katie E. Whitfield (Robbie), Brittany A. Bishop and David Bishop; and 10 great-granchildren.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Doug Bishop, Buford Bishop and Buck Bishop.
Rev. Bishop was educated at Greenville High School, Class of 1942, Furman University and received a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas. While studying for the ministry he was employed at the Greenville News and Star Telegram in Forth Worth, Texas.
Rev. Bishop was a patriotic American who served his country in World War II as a Staff Sergeant in the Army AirCorp. He received several medals for valor for his service during the war.
Rev. Bishop pastured at several churchs during his 55 years in the gospel ministry. Beginning at Riverside Baptist Church in Belton, SC, Bethel Heights Baptist Church in Gatesville, TX. His longest pastorate was 21 years at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Easley, SC. He also pastored Geer Memorial Baptist Church in Easley, SC. Following his retirement, Rev. Bishop had 3 interim pastorates and he was a member of the Prison Ministry of First Baptist Church in Easley and a Certified Honorary Chaplain for the Pickens County Stockade in Pickens, SC, also a chaplain with Hospice in Easley, SC.
He is currently a member of First Baptist Church of Easley, SC, the Coley Cleveland Sunday School Class and a former member of Heartsong Choir at First Baptist Church.
Honorary escort will be the Coley Cleveland Sunday School Class and the Heartsong Choir of First Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends Wednesday night, July 29th from 7-8:30pm in the Northax of First Baptist Church Easley. The funeral will be conducted Thursday, July 30th at 3:00pm at First Baptist Church. Dr. John Adams will officiate assisted by Dr. Randolph Kowalski and Bob Merritt. Rev. Marion Adams assisted by Dr. Lloyd Batson will conduct the graveside service.
