Hugh Edward Hurley

Hugh Edward Hurley, 73, of Anderson, passed away May 16, 2022.

Born in Raleigh, NC, he is the son of the late Hugh Gillespie and Dorothy Ballenger Hurley of Clemson, South Carolina.  Mr. Hurley received his undergraduate degree from Clemson University in 1970 and subsequently earned his Master of Business Administration from the Clemson/Furman University graduate program.  He served his country in the United States Navy with honor.  Mr. Hurley retired in 2007 as Chief Operations Officer of Hampshire Designers, Inc.  Mr. Hurley was a member of First Baptist Church of Clemson. 

Mr. Hurley is survived by his sisters, Margaret Hurley of Central, South Carolina, and Mary Olson of Greenwood, South Carolina, and was predeceased by his sister, Jenny Hurley Bush of Beaufort, South Carolina. Ed was a wonderful stepfather to 3 stepchildren and a loving grandfather to Jacob Wright of Greenville, South Carolina. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Ed had a zest for life and loved his family and friends.  Those who knew him called him “a character” and loved his sense of humor, his generosity, and kindness. His genuine heart and ability to laugh at himself and with others made him the life of every gathering. He always had a love for the water – lake or ocean, be it in a boat or a pool, it was hard to separate him from the element he loved most. His smile and laughter will be hard to forget, and the stories of his antics and adventures are the stuff of legends. 

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 27, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.  Burial will be immediately after in Old Stone Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to The First Baptist Church of Clemson Foundation.
