Col. Hugh W. Webb,

Colonel Hugh W. Webb, died, Monday, February 4, 2008 at the Clemson Area Heath Center.
Born on July 11, 1920 and raised in Saluda, SC, Col. Webb graduated from Clemson University in 1941, where he played football on the 1939 Cotton Bowl team and earned his degree in Civil Engineering. He later earned his Master's Degree from Stanford University. During a distinguished 27 year military career in the United States Army, Col. Webb was involved in numerous military campaigns during WWII and Korea. He participated in amphibious landings at North Africa, Sicily, Italy and Normandy. Col. Webb's military decorations include the Bronze Star and the Legion of Merit. Col. Webb also served as military attache to the U.S. Embassy in Oslo, Norwary. Upon his retirement from the Army, Col. Webb became a member of the faculty at Clemson University where he was a professor for many years.
Col. Webb is survived by his wife of 61 years, "Putt" Webb of Clemson; his children, Alison Loeffler, Rob Webb, John Webb, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Grace Gilchrist of Greenville, SC.
Funeral services will be 2 PM, Wednesday at Clemson United Methodist Church with burial with full military rites to follow in Cemetery Hill on the Clemson University campus.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM, Wednesday, prior to the service at the church.
