Irene J. HopkinsCentral, SCIrene Johnston Hopkins, 98, formerly of Central, widow of Furman W. "Hop" Hopkins, Sr., died Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Hosanna Nursing and Rehab in Piedmont, SC.Born in Central, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Dixon and Brunettie Alexander Johnston. She was a graduate of Central High School and was a very active member of First Baptist Church, Central having served as a Sunday School Teacher, member and past president of the WMU, volunteered for many years with Vacation Bible School and for over 50 years was in charge of the Bereavement Committee of the church. She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.Surviving are sons, Furman W. (Nancy) Hopkins, Jr. of Liberty, Bobby (Jane) Hopkins of Clemson and Ronnie (Cindy) Hopkins of Anderson; daughters, Gwen Gilstrap of Easley, Peggy Cover of Clemson and Linda (Doug) Patrick of Greenville; grandchildren, John W. Gilstrap, Sandra Cover, Kendra (Rigo Sanchez) Cover, Andrea Cover, Jeff W. Hopkins, Jennifer (Jason) Knight, Charles D. (Adrienne) Patrick, Joseph P. (Tia) Patrick, Russell Warren Patrick, Robby Hopkins, Chris (Casey) Hopkins and Ashley (Payton) Burdette; great-grandchildren, Conner Gilstrap, Jack Sanchez, Taylor and Stephen Hopkins, Jaylee Knight, Hudson, Bethany, Cale, J.P., Lydia and Lily Grace Patrick and Charleigh Hopkins; and seven step grandchildren.In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Garvin Johnston, Sr.Funeral services will be 2 PM, Tuesday at First Baptist Church, 207 Johnson Road, Central, SC, with burial to follow in Memory Gardens.The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 12:30 to 1:45 PM.The family will be at their respective homes.The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all of the caregivers at Hosanna Nursing and Rehab Center and Patriot's Hospice for providing such tender and caring service to Mrs. Hopkins and her family.Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Lottie Moon Fund of First Baptist Church Central or to a charity of one's choice.Condolences may be expressed online at www.robinsonfuneralhomes.com or at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central, SC.
