Irene Schoening Simon, widow of Frederick Tyler Simon, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2010 after a three-year period of declining health. Daughter of Anna and Frederick Schoening, Irene was born on October 31,1918 in Meriden, CT. After marriage, Irene and Fred lived in several areas of the country settling in the university community of Clemson, SC in 1968. Their home was a constant "project" where they pursued their passions for working, entertaining, woodworking, gardening and service with their church. Clemson was also their home base for travel and life abroad. Mrs. Simon was a volunteer and board member of the Pickens County Department of Social Services for 26 years.
Mrs. Simon is survived by two daughters Karla Simon (husband Leon Irish) of Crownsville, MD and Frances Simon (husband Paul Ellis) of Greenville, SC, two grandsons Bart Ellis (wife Allison Ellis) of Greenville, SC and Tyler Ellis (fiancée Avita Bansee ) of New York, NY, and many other family members.
The family would like to give thanks to the many caring people who have helped Irene both in her home and in care facilities. A graveside service will be held at St. Paul's church in Pendleton, SC at a future date.
