Irene Gulley Washington, 85, of 303 Peachtree Street, wife of the late Thomas Marion Washington, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital.

Born in Elbert County, GA, a daughter of the late Clyde Eugene and Blanche Ward Gulley, Mrs. Washington retired as a kindergarten teacher at First Baptist Church, Easley, after twenty years of service. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Easley, where she was a member of the Freeman Sunday School Class, the Friendship Club and the Frances Eller/Oneida Mahaffey WMU Group. Mrs. Washington was a member of the American Legion Auxillary Post 52 in Easley.

Surviving are three daughters, Jane W. Ellenburg (Thomas E.) of Conway, Joy W. Rodatz of Easley, and Judith W. Khidhathong (Tong) of Wake Forest, NC; a sister, Delree G. Lloyd of Brandon, FL; seven grandchildren, Benjamin Ellenburg, Rachel Ellenburg McDowell, David and Sarah Rodatz and Thomas, Rebecca and Michael Khidhathong; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Washington was predeceased by five brothers, Orrin, Herbert, Clark, Guilford and Herman Gulley and by two sisters, Jewell G. Cox and Valeria G. Howell.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 PM Sunday at First Baptist Church, Easley, with Rev. Dr. John Adams officiating. Burial will follow in Robinson Memorial Gardens, 1425 Powdersville Road, Easley.

The Freeman Sunday School Class, the Friendship Club, and the Frances Eller/Oneida Mahaffey WMU Group will serve as honorary escorts.

The body is at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown and will be placed in the church at 1:00 PM Sunday where the family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:45 PM in the narthex of the church, prior to the service.

The family is at the residence.
