James Swain Merck, 89, 340 West Blue Ridge Street, died Sunday, July 29, 2007 at the Hospice House of Anderson.

Born in Banks County, GA, a son of the late James Corbett and Dollie Dickerson Merck. He was a member of Faith Fellowship Church where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. A US Navy Veteran of WWII, he was a former Commander and Chaplain of the American Legion Post 113, Paul-Dewitt, of Pendleton.

Surviving are; a son, Jimmy Merck and wife Debbie of Flowery Branch, GA; a daughter, Faye Ladd of Pendleton; 2 brothers, Jenkins Merck and Charles Merck of Anderson; 5 sisters, Lucille Swaney of Pendleton, Louise Parker, Frances Parker and June Lyles all of Anderson, and Bobbie Cothran of Central; 2 grandchildren, Michael Merck and Michele Alcorn; and 2 great-grandchildren, Alex and John Merck.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Effie Durham Merck; and a brother, Mays Merck.

Funeral services will be 2 PM, Tuesday in the Chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home with burial to follow in Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be 1 to 2 PM, Tuesday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Faith Fellowship Church, 2230 Old Greenville Hwy, Pendleton, SC 29670 or to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
