John Michael “Mike” Horton, 71, husband of Juliana Suttles Horton passed away suddenly on Sunday, July 24, 2022 at CHI Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Mike was born in Greenville, SC but grew up in Central, SC.  He was a son of the late John Doc “Shakey” and Eloise Nalley Horton.  Mike was a 1969 graduate of Daniel High School and a 1973 graduate in Ceramic Engineering at Clemson University.  He was a member of the ATO Fraternity.  He was owner and CEO of Worldwide Finishing and Supply of Chattanooga and a former partner with KMI of Crystal Lake, Illinois.  Mike was held in high esteem by his friends and colleagues alike.  He was an enthusiastic  outdoorsman who loved whitewater tubing, trout fishing, camping and sailing.  An avid Clemson football fan, Mike enjoyed tailgating at the Esso Club with his long-time friends 

In addition to his wife, Mike is survived by a daughter, Heather Dabbs and her husband, Todd of Nashville, TN; brother Don Horton and his wife Ruth of Knoxville, TN; sister Joyce Anderson and her husband, Neal of Georgetown, SC; grandson Pierce Dabbs and his wife, Kaci; great grandson Waylan Dabbs; stepson, John Frasier and his wife, Chassidy of Atlanta; step daughter, Beth Scealf of Ooltewah, TN; step grandchildren Caroline Adcock and Jase Scealf; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mike was predeceased by a son, Jonathan Michael Horton and a granddaughter, Zoee Dabbs.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm, Thursday, July 28, 2022 in the Chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral & Cremations, 108 Cross Creek Road, Central, SC with burial to follow in Mt Zion Cemetery.  

The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Humane Educational Society of Chattanooga or to the charity of one’s choice.
