Mr. J.C. Owens, 79, husband of Grace Cisson Owens, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Rainey Hospice House.
Born in Pickens County, a son of the late Frank Thomas and Myrtie Boyd Owens, Mr. Owens retired from Alice Manufacturing Co. with forty-nine years of service and attended Elljean Baptist Church.
J.C. was well known for playing his fiddle having played with many Country Music Celebrities. He received the Jean Laney Harris Heritage Award, was a South Carolina State Fiddle Champion in 1960, and honored in many museums across South Carolina.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of sixty years, are a son, Chris Owens of Easley; three daughters, Donna Ballew (Joseph) of Liberty, Karen Aiken (Mike) of Easley, and Jan Phillips (Barry) of Pickens; two sisters, Frances Holliday of Easley, and Hazel Turner of Pickens; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Owens was predeceased by four brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 11, 2014 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until 1:45 PM Tuesday at the funeral home, prior to the service.
