Rev. J. D. Smith, 87, of 306 Oakfield Avenue, and husband of Edith Marie Smith, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008.

Born in Easley, Rev. Smith was a son of the late James Frank and Bernice Black Smith, attended Owasso Bible College and served as a pastor and evangelist from 1951 until his retirement in 2004. He was an Elder of the Bible Methodist Church.


Surviving in addition to his wife, of the home are one son, Dennis Smith and wife, Nellie Faye of Easley; one daughter, Frankie S. Nelson and husband, Bob of Simpsonville; four brothers, Rev. Howard Smith of Lyman and Rev. Homer Smith, Melton Smith and Elmer Smith all of Easley; one step-sister, Helen Murphy of Easley; four grandchildren, Vangie, Sondra and her husband, Russ Hennessee, Christy, and Travis, all of Easley; and four great-grandchildren, Jordan, Mikaya, Drayden, and Ella.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by an infant brother, John Smith of Easley.

Funeral services will be at 2 PM, Friday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville Road with Revs. Terry Going, Belvin Green, Howard Smith, Walter Hedstrom, and Homer Smith officiating.

Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 11 AM to 2 PM on Friday at the funeral home, prior to the service.

The family is at the home.
