Jack Thornton Goolsby, 62, of Easley, SC passed away Thursday, June 3, 2010.


Born in Lexington, Kentucky, Mr. Goolsby was a son of the late James Phillip and Elizabeth Thornton Greene Goolsby, Sr. He graduated from Seneca High School in Louisville, Kentucky. Jack was a Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps where he honorably served in the Vietnam War. He was the recipient of two Purple Hearts. He retired after thirty years with Roadway Express. Mr. Goolsby was a member of the Marine Corps League (James Howe and Luke Cisson Detachment 1145) and at one time served as Senior Vice Commandant. He was presented with the Legion of Honor Award from the Chapel of Four Chaplains. He was a member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church.

Jack had been an avid golfer and hunter and enjoyed hanging out with his rifle and shooting range buddies. His granddaughters were the love of his life, and he proudly lived his life for his family and his country.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Hogan Goolsby, of the home; a daughter, Tessa Whitworth and her husband, Cameron, of Charleston, S.C.; a son, John Goolsby, and his wife, Marianne, of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; five grandchildren, Carson, Madeline, Caroline, Erin and Colin; his oldest brother, James P. Goolsby, Jr., of Santa Fe, New Mexico and his younger brother, Steve Allen Goolsby, of Suwanee, Georgia. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son-in-law, Ian Raymond Burns and by his immediate older brother, Richard Clark Goolsby, for whom he was a caretaker during his long battle with cancer.


Memorial services will be 10:30 AM Monday in the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville Road.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service until 12:30 PM Monday at the funeral home.

A committal service will take place at a later date in the Chapel of Reflection Mausoleum at Robinson Memorial Gardens.



In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. 14301; Cincinnati, Ohio 45250 or St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 1200 Powdersville Road; Easley, SC 29642.

The family is at their home in Easley.
