Allan Jackson "Jack" Harris, Sr., 84, husband of Mary Jo Covington Harris, passed away Monday, January 11, 2016 at his home after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Born in Lloyd, Florida, Mr. Harris was a son of the late Allan Denette and Rosa Cannon Harris. He graduated from FSU in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business. He worked in all types of sales and worked on offshore oil rigs in the kitchen. His last employment was in the kitchen at the Clemson House. Mr. Harris was a member of Easley Presbyterian Church.
In his early years, Jack was an avid hunter and fisherman. His more recent hobbies included reading, gardening, and baking. His generosity and culinary skills are legendary. He spared neither time nor expense in creating his made-from-scratch delicacies including soups, banana pudding, and his famous cinnamon rolls, all of which he took great pleasure in sharing with family, friends, and neighbors. His love of animals was obvious to anyone who observed him with his beloved Golden Retriever, "Duchess."
Surviving, in addition to his wife of thirty years, are two sons, Allan Jackson Harris, Jr. (Debbie) of Melbourne, FL, and William Denton "Pepper" Harris of Vero Beach, FL; and three grandchildren, Christopher Michael Harris, Kevin Cody Harris, and Danielle Suzanne Nichols. In addition to his parents, Mr. Harris was predeceased by a daughter, Jennifer Ann Nichols.
Memorial services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Easley Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Bill Seel and the Rev. Christie Gravely officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church parlor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Easley Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 200 South First Street, Easley, SC 29640.
