James Michael Austin, Sr.,75, or Mike as he was known, a beloved husband, father, grandfather
and friend, peacefully passed away at his home in Taylors, South Carolina, on December 3,
2024, surrounded by his family. Born on February 16, 1949, in Piedmont, South Carolina to Carl
and Daisy Austin, he was a man of deep devotion and character.
Mike was a proud veteran who honorably served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam
War. His service to his country was a testament to his strong values and unwavering
commitment to those he cared for. After returning from military service, he built a life filled with
love, family, and friends.
He celebrated 57 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Jan. Together, they created
a warm and loving home for their family.
Mike had a passion for life, which he expressed through various hobbies and interests. He
enjoyed fishing, golfing and racing all of which allowed him to spend time with family and
friends.
Mike is survived by his wife, Jan, and their children, James “Jimmy” Austin, Jr. (Shannon),
Christy Mooney (Ken Allen), and Carla Styles as well as his grandchildren Morgan Gentry
(Bradley), Samantha Lyles (Cody), Bradley Styles (Jessica), Haleigh Styles (Jed Giddley), and
his great-grandchildren Clayton Gentry, Carter Styles, Carson Styles, and Blakely Gentry. He
also leaves behind his brother, Randy “Biscuit” Carl Austin.
He is predeceased by his parents, Carl and Daisy Austin, his sister-in-law, Linda Austin, and
brother-in-law Bill Prince.
A visitation honoring Mike will be held on December 10, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:45 AM at
Robinson Funeral Home on Powdersville Road, followed by a funeral service celebrating his life,
starting at 12:00 PM.
