James Cely Bowie

James Cely Bowie, 78, of Easley, South Carolina, loving husband of Barbara McAlister Bowie, passed away on September 13, 2024. Born in Anderson County, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Aubrey Lewis and Mildred Cely Bowie. 

A devoted husband, father, and Papa, Jim was a graduate of Clemson University, where he earned his degree in Electrical Engineering. Following his education, he embarked on a long career as a Maintenance Engineer. 

Jim was deeply involved in his community. He was a long-time member of Easley First Baptist Church. He gave his time and energy to the American Legion and the Lion’s Club, organizations where he forged friendships and made a difference. 

His life was centered around his family. He adored his beloved wife, their two daughters, and his precious grandchildren. He cherished every moment spent with them, whether it was enjoying family gatherings or taking part in community events. An active member of the YMCA of Easley, Jim believed in staying active and engaged in life’s simple joys. 

In his younger years, Jim served his country with honor in the United States Navy Aviation, where he was stationed in Sicily, Italy. His commitment to service and country was a source of pride for him and his family. 

In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by his two daughters; Melissa Potter (Todd) and Michelle Navis (Chad); two grandchildren; Ashlyn and Holden Navis; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law; Anthony McAlister (Marian); loving nieces and nephews and four granddogs. 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Aubrey Lewis Bowie, Jr. and William Eugene Bowie. 

The family will receive friends from 1:15 PM – 1:45 PM on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at Robinson Funeral Home – Downtown. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home – Downtown. Burial will follow the service in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
