James (Peder) Earl Bruce
- Atlanta, Georgia

James "Peder" Earl Bruce, passed away May 2, 2012 after battling pancreatic cancer. Mr. Bruce was a son of the late Jessie Earle and Helen Mae Bruce. He is survived by his sisters, Mary Bruce Bradberry and Patricia Bruce Outz, and a brother, Marcus Ray Bruce, along with many nieces, nephews and grand-nieces in the Greenville, SC area and his god-children in Atlanta, James Peder Bruce was born in Greenville, SC and baptized at Saint Andrews Episcopal Church. He finished high school in Greenville and went on to attend Clemson University with subsequent advanced degrees from North Carolina State University and Harvard University.He was predeceased by partners, John McCollum and Jay Truluck.

Peder remained a fierce Tiger fan throughout his life and endowed the Jessie and Helen Bruce Endowment in the College of Architecture. He is also established four scholarships to the College of Architecture in his name and the names of his two sisters and brother. Throughout his career he practiced Architecture in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. He established Columbia Architectural Group in the 70's with his three partners in Columbia: Colonel Rogers, John Taylor and Allen Marshall. He subsequently worked for many years in Atlanta with Heery International and DAG Architects while consulting with his private practice. One of his greatest joys was working on the West Zone addition to Death Valley at Clemson University. Peder enjoyed his many years of work and the opportunity to mentor so many interns.

The family wishes to thank his Atlanta family of friends, particularly Chris and Erin Tyner,Jonathan and Kim Platz and Geoffrey and Sara Green, for their friendships and support during his illness, along with the doctors and staff at Emory University Hospital and Open Arms Hospice in Simpsonville, SC

The memorial service will be at 12:00 PM Saturday at Saint Andrews Episcopal Church, Greenville, with Father Trey Garland officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery, West.

Visitation will be from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM Friday at Robinson Funeral Home - Powdersville Road, 1425 Powdersville Road, Easley, SC.

The family is at the home of his sister, Mary B. Bradberry, 301 High Valley Boulevard, Greenville, SC.

Flowers are acceptable, or memorials may be made to the Jessie and Helen Bruce Endowment in the College of Architecture, Arts and Humanities at Clemson University.
