JAMES C. DAVIS - Surfside Beach
James C. Davis, CWO (retired), 93, died Wednesday evening, January 11, 2006, at the Richard Campbell VA Nursing Home in Anderson, SC. He was born in Ruby, SC in 1912 and graduated from Ruby High School in 1929.
He served in the US Navy for 28 years. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor and served in the Pacific during WWII. He retired and became a dental technician at the Sexton and Griffin Dental Clinics in Florence, SC.
He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Florence and the Shepard of the Sea Lutheran Church in Surfside Beach. He was a member of the Shriners.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Hilde A. Davis; two daughters, Dr. Kathleen L. Davis of Knoxville, TN, and Judy D. Benson of Seneca, SC; a son-in-law, Dr. Paul H. Benson, III; two grandchildren, Lauren B. Todd and husband, Mark, of Pittsburgh, PA, and Paul H. Benson, IV and wife, Molly, of Austin, TX; five great grandchildren, Andrew and Jason Todd, and Harrison, Davis, and Lydia Benson; and a Boykin Spaniel, Cocoa.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
He was predeceased by his parents, J.B. and Lela Davis; three brothers, Lloyd, Tanley, and Boyce; and one sister, Louise.
Graveside service with military honors will be Tuesday, January 17, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at the Florence National Cemetery.
Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central-Clemson Commons, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
