James F. Dusenberry, Jr., MD, died peacefully on April 24th, 2024 at Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca, SC.
A memorial service will be held Saturday May 4, 2024, at 1:00 pm, at Fort Hill Presbyterian Church in Clemson, SC.
James Dusenberry, Jr., was born February 19, 1939, in Columbia, SC. to James and Dora Lee Dusenberry. Raised in Laurens, his father was a physician, and practiced medicine until his death in 1969.
A graduate of Laurens High School, Erskine College, and the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, Jim practiced medicine as a Radiologist in the SC Upstate and Northeast Georgia for 30 years.
Jim met Mary Christine Dunbar of Spartanburg while they were at Erskine College. They were married June 23, 1962. They were blessed to enjoy 61 years of marriage, and have resided in Clemson together for the last 55 years.
Jim was an active member of Fort Hill Presbyterian Church, serving in various leadership positions on the Board of Elders and singing bass in the choir for many decades.
Jim’s hobbies and interests included family, particularly his grandchildren, church, photography, sailing, flying, and Clemson athletics. For many years he volunteered as a team physician for Daniel High School football, and founded the Lake Hartwell Property Owners’ Association.
Dr. Dusenberry is survived by his wife, Mary Dunbar Dusenberry, his son James Dusenberry, III, and wife Marianna, with children Annie and Will McMorris, James Dusenberry, IV, and Elizabeth and John Johnson. And his daughter Jean Lee Dusenberry Pirkey and husband Parke, with children Hudson and Sutton Pirkey.
Instead of flowers, Dr. Dusenberry asked that memorials be sent to Fort Hill Presbyterian Church in Clemson.
