James Cather Eaton,Sr. 96, of Greenville, passed away Friday, October 25, 2013 at Bellaire Place Assisted Living. He was the husband of the late Janis Coe Eaton of Byrdstown, Tennessee.
Mr. Eaton was born in Coxton, Kentucky, the son of the late Frank C. and Sally Lou York Eaton of Harlan, Kentucky.. He was owner and operator of the Wagon Wheel store in Columbia and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of W.W. II. He was a member of St Matthias Lutheran Church in Easley.
Surviving are three daughters, Barbara Dunlap (Gene), of Easley; Claudia Grier (Tommy) of Lancaster; and Sally Maxey (Jerry) of Piedmont; and one son James C. Eaton, Jr. (Megan of Greenville; eight grandchildren, Russell Dunlap, III, Jennifer Grier Weeks, Brian T. Grier, Laura E. Grier, Melodie L. Smith, Aaron Cather Eaton, Azlee J. Eaton, and Andrew W. Eaton; great-grandchildren, Rusty Dunlap, Peyton Weeks, Josh Weeks, Jackson Grier and Bailey Grier.
He was pre-deceased by three brothers, Clinton Eaton, John Eaton, and Carl Max and three sisters, Claudia E. Crowell, Fola E. Gregory, and Julia M. Miller.
Graveside memorial services and burial will be 2:30 pm Sunday, November 3, 2013, in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Matthias Lutheran Church.
