James "Jimmie" Rankin Elrod, III, 76, passed away at his residence on Sunday, January 19, 2025. Born on December 21,1948, in Greenville, SC to parents James Rankin Elrod, Jr. and Louise Greer Elrod. He retired as a field service technician after thirty- one years for The Greenville Water System and was of Baptist faith.
Jimmie served in the Army, a testament to his commitment to his country. He dedicated his life to his family, but also to the activities that enriched the lives of countless young people. As an active member of the band booster club, a leader in the Royal Ambassadors, and a supportive figure in the Boy Scouts, He displayed a lifelong passion for engaging with youth. He coached youth league baseball and basketball, fostering teamwork, sportsmanship, and a love of the game, and the children he mentored, especially his own.
A man of diverse interests, Jimmie had a particular fondness for hot rods, especially GTOs, which reflected his vibrant personality and enjoyment of life’s pleasures. His pride also shone through in his unwavering support for his children's activities, dedicating his time and energy to ensure their voices were heard and their potential realized. He was an avid Clemson Football fan, relishing the camaraderie and excitement surrounding each game. Jimmie enjoyed traveling and loved visiting Edisto Beach, where he and his family have many fond memories.
His two children survive him; daughter, Carissa James (Adrian); son, Brad Elrod (Chastity), and grandchildren, Skylar, Sophia, Silas, and Rayne.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, from 12:00 until 12:45 at Robinson Funeral Home - Powdersville Road. The memorial service will follow at 1:00 PM in the funeral home chapel.
He will be remembered fondly by all who had the joy of knowing him. His spirit, kindness, and love for his family left an indelible mark on the hearts of many. He is survived by his family, whose memories of him will continue to inspire and enrich their lives. Jimmie will be greatly missed, but his legacy of love and support will forever resonate within the community he cherished.
