James "Cary" Freeman, husband of the late Mary Jane Terry Freeman, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 12, 2024. Cary met his Lord and Savior on his 76th birthday, a day that echoes both the celebration of a life well-lived and the reunion with his beloved bride, Jane.
Born in Greenville, SC, he was the son of Christine “Smick” Timmons Freeman and James E. Freeman. Cary's educational journey began at North Greenville College and culminated with degrees from Clemson University and MUSC. With a career spanning 34 years as a dedicated pharmacist, Cary partnered with Delma Sentell, sharing not just a workplace but a journey with purpose and passion to help others. He balanced the demands of his profession with a deep commitment to making memories with his family. Cary was a man of God whose faith was a cornerstone, and his love and generosity were felt by family, friends, and the community of Powdersville. He was a very active member and deacon of Siloam Baptist Church, where he served faithfully for more than 40 years. His love and sense of humor showed in every activity he was involved in, whether it was swinging clubs on the golf course, attending church events, or spending time with friends and family. After his retirement, he was known affectionately by his family as "Papa Uber", where he would carry his grandchildren to their extracurricular activities.
He is survived by sons; David Freeman (Michelle) and Daniel Freeman (Melissa); grandchildren, Miles (Kayla), Alora, Benjamin, and Micah; brothers, Stanley Freeman (Becky) and Jerry Freeman.
In addition to his parents and his beloved wife, he is predeceased by a brother, Ronnie Freeman (Joyce).
The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 16, 2024, from 10:00 AM until 11:45 AM at Siloam Baptist Church, before the funeral service starting at 12:00 PM. Burial to follow in Siloam Baptist Church Cemetery.
