James Allen Gardner, born on February 27, 1930, in Benton Harbor, Michigan, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025. He lived a life filled with dedication, service, and a deep love for his faith, family, and community.
James enjoyed a varied and rewarding career as a building inspector, home builder, and Bible teacher. His professional journey reflected not only his skills but also his commitment to helping others create safe and welcoming homes. He served in the National Guard Reserves, an expression of his dedication to his country.
Throughout his life, James became known for his kind personality and a wide array of interests. An avid golfer, he found joy on the golf course, where he cherished the challenges and camaraderie the game offered. His love for reading extended notably to his Bible, reflecting his strong spiritual foundation and devotion to teaching both youth and adults in Sunday School for most of his life. His contributions to the community went beyond the classroom; he proudly supported the Jesus Film Project for many years, a testament to his commitment to sharing his faith.
Among his proudest accomplishments was his time playing semi-pro football in Michigan during his younger years, highlighting his love for sports. He also took great joy in singing in a quartet with his brothers, a reflection of his belief in the power of music to bring people together.
James was known for his gentle spirit and affectionate nature, especially towards his beloved lab dog mix, Rusty, who was always by his side. He delighted in simple pleasures, such as enjoying ice cream on warm days and cheering passionately for his favorite teams, Michigan and the Clemson Tigers.
James Allen Gardner leaves behind a legacy of kindness, faith, and commitment to family and community that will be dearly remembered by all who knew him. His life serves as an inspiration, reminding us of the impact one can have through service, love, and integrity.
James also leaves behind his loving wife of 46 years, Joyce Lee Gardner; his sons, Steve Gardner (Maria) and Brad Gardner (Carol), his daughter Vistoria Kruggel (Joel); step-daughters, Kim Jones (David), Leesa Polanco (Terry), Leslee Dosier (Randal), and Janene Wilson (Alex); as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at Robinson Funeral Home – Downtown, Easley from 10:00 AM – 10:45 AM with a funeral service to follow in the chapel at Robinson Funeral Home – Downtown , Easley at 11:00 Am. Internment will follow afterwards at Taylors First Baptist Church in Taylors, SC.
