James E. Harkins

James Edward Harkins, 81, of 407 Huntington Road, went to be with the Lord Jesus, suddenly, Thursday, October 29, 2009, at St. Francis Hospital.
Born in Anderson County, a son of the late John Walter and Helen Ellenburg Harkins, Mr. Harkins retired from Saco-Lowell after thirty-two years of service and was a member of First Baptist Church, Easley. He had served with the US Navy during World War II.
James will be remembered for being a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend.
Surviving are his wife, Bonnie Fendley Harkins of the home; a son, Ronald (Ron) Harkins of Easley; a brother, Franklin Harkins of Easley; four sisters, Gladys Williams (Wyatt), and Ann H. Whitlock, Bertie Gibson (Larry), and Laura H. McDonald (William), all of Easley. In addition to his parents, Mr. Harkins was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Johnny Whitlock and by a sister-in-law, Cathleen Harkins.
A celebration of James life will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown with Rev. Dr. John Adams officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 2:00 until 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, prior to the service.
