Rev. James Edward Hughes, 83, husband of Virginia Leopard Hughes, passed away Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Pickens County, a son of the late William Ed and Dora Turner Hughes, Rev. Hughes retired from the United States Army, after twenty- five years of service, and was a member of Liberty Ministries Church.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of the home, are a son, Thomas David Smalley, III of Columbia; two daughters, Pamela Peacher of GA and Juanita Dunphy of PA; one brother, Calvin Hughes of Easley; three sisters, Wilma Strange of Powdersville, Fay Mills of VA, and Frances Pritchett of TX; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Rev. Hughes was predeceased by a son, two daughters, four brothers, and five sisters.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Liberty Ministries Church, Greenville. Burial will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens with military honors.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville Road.

The family is at the residence, 101 Dellwood Drive, Easley, SC 29642.

Memorials may be made to the Liberty Ministries Church building fund, 3006 Old Easley Bridge Road, Greenville, SC 29611.
