James "Jim" Charles Currow

James “Jim” Charles Currow, 79, of Sunset, husband to Marion Glaze Currow, passed away August 30, 2023.

Born in Charleston, he was the son of the late James Cotten Currow and Elizabeth Jeanne Cusick Currow. Jim graduated from St. Andrews High School and then obtained a bachelor’s degree from what is now Charleston Southern University.  He began a newspaper career in Charleston that took him across the country. Mid-career, he graduated from Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program. In 2011, he retired as the Executive Vice President of Morris Publishing Group, a position in which he oversaw 13 daily newspapers and 27 other publications. Jim co-founded newspaper consulting firms Currow & de Montmollin in 1995 and Currow, Weeks & Associates in 2012. Jim was a skilled chef of Southern cuisine, an occasional golfer, and a constant champion of his friends and family.  His ever-present smile and genuine interest bettered the day of all he encountered.

Jim is survived by his wife, Marion Glaze Currow; daughter, Kimberly Currow Erickson and husband John of Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren, Lily Cotten Erickson, Lane Carlton Erickson, and Grace Marion Erickson; sister, Shiela Cunningham of Myrtle Beach.

A Celebration of Life for Jim will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at John Wesley United Methodist Church, 626 Savannah Hwy, Charleston, South Carolina, with reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center and the Red Cross.
