James "Jim" Austin Stone, 92, of Seneca, SC, passed away peacefully at Clemson Downs Nursing facility on Thursday, December 17,, 2020.
Jim was born in Bluefield, WV, on May 1, 1928, to James Gordon Stone and Evelyn Loleta Austin Stone. He enlisted in the US Army in September 1946 and served in the Signal Corps in Munich, Germany. Jim received an honorable discharge when he returned home in 1947. He graduated from West Virginia University in 1952 with a BS in Forestry. Jim had a long, illustrious sales career working for the William L. Bonnell Company, Moss Supply Company, Ethyl Corporation, and Tredegar Corporation. In 1954, he met Flora Alice Kizer of St. George, SC, and they were married after a short six weeks of courtship. They were married for 61 years and raised two children.
Jim enjoyed flying airplanes, boating on the lake, and spending quality time with our "Bayshore Backdoor Friends." Most of all, he loved sitting on the back deck, watching Lake Hartwell and the wildlife. He always said, "you cannot beat the view."
Jim was predeceased in death by his parents, his son James Chester "Chet" Stone, his sister Mary Esther Thornhill and his beloved wife, Flora Alice Stone.
Jim is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Holly Kizer Stone (Patrick Clow) of Cleveland, SC, his granddaughter, Madison Austin Shea of Greenville, SC, nephew Blair (Iris) Stone of Rocky Mount, VA, Sister-in-law Bert Riley Kizer of St. George, SC, Niece, Alice Lynn (Doug) Stein of Humble, TX, and nephew, Harvey (Teresa) Kizer of St. George, SC.
Jim's graveside funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Sunday, December 20, 2020, at Memory Gardens, 586 Issaqueena Trail, Clemson, SC. A private service will be held later in Rocky Mount, VA, at the Stone family Cemetery.
Due to concerns with the Covid-19 Pandemic, facial coverings will be required and social distancing protocols will be observed.
